For over 85 years, Guyson have designed and manufactured premium surface finishing equipment for customers, worldwide. Ranging from smaller, manual machines such as their benchtop Formula and Pencil Blaster systems, all the way through the range to their industry-leading AMS2432 computer controlled shot peening systems.

Whilst every system in the Guyson range reflects the same commitment to precision-built technology that delivers cutting-edge results, there is a key question to answer when selecting the ideal cabinet for your finishing application, production requirements and budget needs… do you require a suction feed or pressure feed system?

Correctly deciding whether you need a suction or pressure feed cabinet has a fundamental influence on the end result, along with other aspects such as the type of blast gun nozzle and abrasive used.

These two types of systems may look similar from the outside; however, they fundamentally operate in different ways.

Suction Feed Systems: Light power for light finishing

Where suction feed systems are concerned, the abrasive is drawn from the cabinet hopper into the airstream, by a vacuum created within the blast gun, causing the media to be syphoned through the system rather than being force-fed. As a result, a suction feed cabinet creates a gentler impact on the component and therefore requires less wear parts maintenance than a pressure feed cabinet.

Furthermore, suction feed systems are highly-ideal for medium duty workshops, working with applications that require precision over power, such as glass bead finishing, light cleaning and etching.

Pressure Feed Systems: Heavy-duty power for industrial applications

In comparison, a pressure feed system stores the blast media within an external pressure pot. The abrasive is then introduced into a compressed airstream within the blast hose, creating a more efficient blasting experience caused by the higher exit velocity of the blast media.

Offering cycle times up to four times faster than suction feed cabinets, the pressure feed system is the preferred choice for large production finishing applications that require power and speed, such as removing rust, mill scale and investment from components.
